Pay links
How customers pay by card, and what each pay-link message means.
When you take cards (see Card payments), each booking gets its own pay link. The link opens Stripe's checkout for your own Stripe account. The money goes straight to you.
Where a pay link goes
- Online booking: the customer goes to payment right after they book. The confirmation email has a Pay button too.
- Phone booking: the caller gets a text from your number with their pay link, and an email if they gave one. See Phone bookings.
- Bulk tests for a client account: the contact gets an email with the pay link. See Sell tests in bulk.
- Autopilot: if a yearly charge is declined, the report email gives the customer a pay link. See Autopilot, the yearly plan.
If a pay link couldn't reach a phone caller, the office email says NOT SENT and gives the link. Text it to the caller yourself.
What the customer sees
| Page | Meaning |
|---|---|
| You're all paid | This was paid already. |
| Thanks — payment received | Paid. Stripe emails their receipt. |
| Nothing to pay | There is nothing due on this link. |
| This link isn't valid | The link is wrong. They should call you. |
| Card payments aren't available right now | Your Stripe account can't take cards now. |
| Something went wrong | The payment page didn't open. Try again soon. |
When a payment counts as paid
Only Stripe marks a payment paid, after the customer pays. A job shows whether it is paid, so you can check before you schedule it.
Refunds
Make refunds in your Stripe dashboard. Cancelling a job doesn't refund it.
Pay links on your own domain
Pay links normally look like https://app.backflowbase.com/api/pay/…. Backflow Base can set your
company up so they use your own website's domain instead, https://<your domain>/pay/…, and
Stripe sends customers back there after they pay. Your customers then never see backflowbase.com.
Your website must forward /pay/… to Backflow Base before this is turned on. It isn't a setting
in the app: email hello@backflowbase.com to set it up. Links you
sent before keep working.
